This tutorial guides artists through making sprite sheets playable in Game Art Tool v0.1.
Follow these steps to create or modify characters and test animations in the game.
From the main menu, select Change Characters to create, modify, or enable/disable characters.
This menu is your hub for character customization.
Select Make New Character to start with a placeholder (animated question mark).
Add animations by importing sprite sheets and editing parameters.
Click Open Sprite Sheet to import a PNG sprite sheet. Use Crop to select a strip of frames, adjust with mouse scroll or up/down keys, and save or discard changes.
In the crop menu, scroll to select the desired strip. Click <-- to save or X to discard.
Set Number of Frames, Frames per Second, and Centre Point (x, y).
Use Click to Drag to adjust positioning visually.
Use Fix to adjust individual frames.
Flip sprites, move frames with arrow keys, or fix clipping by selecting regions to shift between frames.
Note: If clipping is complex, consider editing the sprite sheet externally and re-importing.
Click --> to save changes, then Save Character to add to the imported list for gameplay.
Select Modify Character to edit existing characters (preset or imported).
Adjust animations, names, or other parameters (e.g., jump frame timing, footstep sounds).
Choose Enable or Disable Character to toggle which characters are playable or appear as allies.
Check or uncheck characters and click Finished to save.
